Today, let's talk Peptides. First off, what even are Peptides? Let's break down what this ingredient is and why you should want it to be in your products.

Put simply, peptides in skincare formulas are the building blocks of certain proteins that skin needs for firmness and elasticity. Peptides are not new to skincare but they have become all the more sophisticated in recent years and promising a dazzling array of benefits.

But what do peptides actually do for skin in topical formulas?

Firstly, peptides are naturally found in our body.  Peptides are short chains of amino acids that form proteins in our skin such as collagen and elastin. As we age we progressively lose the collagen and elastin in our skin, which results is loss of skin firmness causing sagging and wrinkles.

Peptides in topical skincare can not be absorbed by the skin to simply replace peptides lost naturally from aging. The concept behind peptides in skincare is that on the surface of the skin they can “trick” the skin into stimulating its collagen-booting processes. Peptides will then stabilize and transport compounds that are important to the production of collagen. Thanks to this, peptides can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles—but that’s not all.

There are hundreds of peptides with skin benefits such as smoothing, firming, reducing redness, and locking in hydration. Here’s a few to look out for:
